  • Yes, the ACOE Foundation received IRS approval as a public charity under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code on October 6, 2008.

2) Are contributions to the ACOE Foundation tax deductible?
  • The IRS has determined the ACOE Foundation is exempt from Federal Income Tax under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to the ACOE Foundation are deductible under section 170 of the Code. The ACOE Foundation is also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under section 2055, 2106, or 2522 of the Code. The ACOE Foundation does not offer tax advice, you should consult with your tax attorney for your specific questions.

3) Is the ACOE Foundation required to file an annual IRS Form 990?
  • Yes, the ACOE Foundation is required to file a Form 990N. The ACOE Foundation 2008, 2009, and 2010 Form 990N returns are posted on Guidestar.

4) How can I donate to the ACOE Foundation?

5) How are donations to the ACOE Foundation used?
  • The ACOE Foundation utilizes financial support to make a positive difference for children by providing teachers with education and support so that they are better equipped in the classrooms.

6) What are some specific examples of how donations to the ACOE Foundation have been used?
  •  In 2011, the ACOE Foundation helped sponsor the 2011 edcamp Birmingham event which brought educators together from all across Alabama to discuss issues facing Alabama educators, share new ideas and technology and their applications, and attend sessions on different topics.

  •  In 2011, the ACOE Foundation helped sponsor the Alabama School Library Association Annual Conference.

  •  In 2011, the ACOE Foundation helped sponsor the Alabama Staff Development Council Annual Conference.

7) Does the ACOE Foundation have any other specific projects for the near future?
  • Yes, we have identified a major project that will be implemented as funds become available. We have also identified several smaller projects as additional funds become available.

8) Is the ACOE Foundation a member of the Alabama Association of Non-Profits (AAN)?
  •           Yes, the ACOE Foundation joined the AAN in April 2010.

9) Is the ACOE Foundation registered with Guidestar?
  •           Yes, the ACOE Foundation is registered with Guidestar (www.guidestar.org ) and has obtained the GuideStar Exchange Seal, demonstrating our commitment to transparency.

10) What professional backgrounds are represented in the ACOE Foundation Board of Directors?
  •  The current ACOE Foundation Board of Directors includes an Alabama Title 1 School Administrator from the Pell City School System, 1 Alabama Educator from Blount County School System, 1 Alabama Educator from Pell City School System, 1 Business Owner, 1 Consultant, and 1 Certified Public Accountant and Senior Manager with Deloitte.
